Food waste is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge stinking problem in little ol’ Aotearoa. As a nation, we’ve let $3.2b worth of food fester, rot and become squishy messes in our fridge drawers.
We found that while many people know food waste is a problem in New Zealand, a lack of understanding of the sheer scale of wasted food meant that it was hard for the average Kiwi to fully comprehend the urgency of the matter.
Our task was clear: we had to find a fresh way to tell New Zealand about their food waste
So naturally, we used mould.
Blue cheese mould specifically, inoculated into three Petri-dishes on billboards around Auckland - one each to represent the most wasted groups of foods - fresh produce, animal products, and bread. For six weeks, we showcased the world’s most riveting mould-based show to Auckland commuters, bringing the problem to attention in an unmissable way.

More to come.
